I don’t need outsourcing
At the time of this recording, we are in the midst of a pandemic, our businesses are halted and we have more time than ever before. So What are the tasks that were taking you away from where your greatest strength was? I know some of you are sitting there thinking but Donna, I don't have the money to outsource and you may think that but carry on listening. You may find that actually You have more than you thought you did.
Stay in your Zone of Genius
So outsourcing doesn't actually have to be a major expense. When I say outsourcing, I don't mean hiring a VA for 30 hours a month on a contract basis. You don't have to go that far but there are lots of different things within your business that take up your time and we spoke about pricing for profit last week. If you worked out your per hour cost of doing business, your time is worth a lot of money and your time is best spent in your zone of genius. So if you are a wedding photographer taking wedding photos is your zone of genius. For a stationer making the stationery making those invitations, that is your zone of genius. When you are not doing that you're doing things for a lot of money but you're not getting it. If you are not taking photos, making the invitations, making the wedding cakes, setting up discos, if you are not doing these things that all your zone of genius, then you, my friend are wasting your time.
It already costs you money to do your admin
Let me explain. If you work out how much you charge per hour to do your business, you may work out that you are at 30 pounds an hour. Now when have you ever seen anybody get paid 30 pounds an hour to answer emails, yet it is costing you 30 pounds an hour to respond to your emails, because you're not out there, doing your zone of genius earning that 30 pounds an hour. You're spending an hour answering emails, you don't need to be doing it. So things that you could outsource are things like your admin, email writing, automation, setups, and outreach, emails, blog writing, culling if you're a photographer, setting up appointments and your social media. You may find a lot of other things that you could outsource in your business. Those are just some ideas so you might have some other ideas as well. What you can do is outsource some of these things, and it will give you back your time. With this time, you can go and earn more money, you can live in your zone of genius and make the big bucks.
What could outsourcing do for me?
So for instance, imagine if you could give over to a copywriter or a VA, whoever it is, or maybe it's several different people that are doing different things for you for a little bit of money. Imagine they're doing what they're doing saves you three hours a week, over 48 weeks because I like to give us holidays. That's 144 hours back in your hands. What could you do with that time? Well, by my reckoning, you could probably do about 10 more weddings and at your average price that's going to be worth it and more than just cover your costs of outsourcing those other items. So I know I'm talking maths again for those of you that don't like but do the maths work it out, it is better for you to outsource some of these things. You go to places like Fiverr or Upwork, you can find people to do these little admin jobs, these little writing jobs and things for you.
You can outsource these things, you can get that time back, you can be editing your images, you can be taking photographs, imagine if you could do this. If you are good at time blocking and you blocked your days off, you could give yourself an extra 10 Fridays in a year that you could shoot weddings. Now I know that I use wedding photography as an example, in a lot of what I talked about, but that's what I know. So I apologize, but it does apply to all of the wedding vendors that we have listening.
Outsourcing helps other small businesses
The other thing with outsourcing is that you're helping other small businesses. You're giving yourself time back to do the business. stuff that you love to do. And you're helping someone else along their journey too. So that's a really good reason to look at outsourcing as well.
Use what you need in a way that works for you. You don't have to outsource. If you've got really good automation and really good systems in place you might not need to outsource but it's something to look at going forward rather than doing all of the behind the scenes stuff. That Yes, it needs to get done. Yes, it's important, but it doesn't have to be done by you.
