Reframe your mindset
We have been on a rollercoaster and it’s frustrating but don’t forget there are still couples looking to make that commitment but in a smaller more intimate way this year. They still need our support it is crucial to remember this. Be aligned with what’s going on now don’t think about your business in the old way because we don’t know when that is coming back. Allow yourself time to feel the feelings it’s okay to feel frustrated, don’t keep your frustrations in, you have to let them out it can negatively impact your health holding it all in and putting on a positive front all the time. Find an outlet Yoga, walking, screaming! Anything that makes you feel better but allows you to show up in a positive way for your clients and family
Grow your business
Know your ideal client
Use this time to dive deep. Who are they what are they about? How are you reaching them? What are you communicating with them? Is your messaging aligned with them? Is your social media and your website giving out the same message? Sometimes social media shows the best new ideas from a business but then they are sending them to a website that hasn’t been updated in a long time. When was the last time you updated your website? Ensure consistency across platforms. Take this time a nail who you are and make sure everything is demonstrating that.
Get planning and get communicating
Showcase your skills. If you’re new you might not have images to show but if you have been around for a few seasons you have great stuff to show people. This is the time to showcase what you have already done. It’s time to step out of the let’s do a post and think let’s do a demo lets do a video let’s get people engaged in what’s going on. Tell them what’s possible and what it might look like in the future. Engage with your audience in a different way. You have to stay visible. Don’t think so much about what you can’t do so there is no point in putting in the time this is absolutely the time!
What do you do in your business? List all those different things. This will give you lots of ideas for posts. Go over your old work get photographs, get testimonials and really dive deep so you have a stack of stuff you can keep showing up with.
What happens is we tend to get comfortable in our own networking groups and we get a few bookings and that’s great then it plateaus. We need to expand our network to expand our business. Look at where you are networking and who you are networking with, again you have some spare time on your hands get some 1-2-1’s in your diary, meet somebody new and see who you can support them, how can you spend time with them and what can you offer in return in terms of helping them stay visible?
I’ve been looking at all the groups I’m in on social media and looking at what is working for me and what isn’t, am I engaging in these groups, I’ve been saying yes to podcasts, and yes to doing videos and I’ve been saying yes to 1-2-1’s get out there and get visible.
Thank you Ali for those tips, I totally agree you can get stuck in a rut with your networking but it has been crucial for my business during lockdown and I have created a free Facebook group for wedding vendors attached to the Society of Professional wedding vendors where you can come and find out more about the society but also network with each other, book in some of these 1-2-1’s with new people from the group and build an extended network.

Keep your mindset straight
Remember Brides and grooms that are pushing back their days this makes it even more important that they get everything right. Couples get anxious about their day to start with add on to that the additional year wait and stress levels can be high. They need trusted suppliers who can take care of them in the lead up to their day on their day in whatever their role is. Don’t go in with an attitude of rocking up doing your thing and leaving. The couple will turn to suppliers who have done weddings before and lean on you for support. Give them that provide excellent customer service. There is going to be a lot of ‘I waited two years (or more) for this it’s got to be right’
Don’t forget also that couples have another year potentially and have already paid up their wedding days mostly so go back to them if they were umming and arring over a particular package they might want to upgrade. Talk to new couples about payment plans to give you more recurring income for the next 6-12 months. Styles and fashions change the bride might completely hate her bridesmaids’ dresses by this time next year so the potential for income is there.
